48 ft Silver Gentlemans twin screw motor yacht
CAIRNGORM
BROKERS COMMENTS
CAIRNGORM is a fine example of a very British motor yacht. John Bain is considered the father of family owned and operated power yachts and the Silver Leaf Class (1932-1951) ranging from 42 to 52 feet in length, of which CAIRNGORM is one, demonstrates exactly why – elegant and timeless in appearance, good sea keeping ability, high quality materials and precise construction.
This boat has been in the same family ownership for a number of years; she has benefited from a very comprehensive maintenance programme, and an owner who also seems to understand the character of the vessel – beautifully unspoilt and with the ability to sleep 10
ACCOMMODATION
There is accommodation for 10 in 3 cabins plus saloon and Captain’s quarters. Entering the wheelhouse from either side deck the vessel’s wheel is central, the helm position is excellent and there is an overwhelming feeling of protection. Engine instrumentation is well laid out and appears original. There is bench seating to port. The wheelhouse windows open forward allowing excellent ventilation when conditions permit – there are also ports that open aft. There is a brass clock and barometer and storage for International code signals.
Moving forward in the boat, and down 3 steps, you enter the main saloon with a dining table offset to port. Once again the detail is excellent with u shaped seating around the main table, and storage drawers and lockers to starboard. The teak joinery is of high quality and with painted white deck heads this space is light and cosy. Soft furnishings include beige Berber whipped edge carpets and pale blue upholstery in saloon and wheelhouse.
The next compartment forward is the galley with adequate storage, two burner hob, grill and oven, sink with pressurised hot and cold water and 12 / 240 V fridge, work surfaces and lockers with cutlery, crockery and utensils.
The fore cabin has two berths and a Baby Blake WC with stowage lockers.
At the aft end of the wheelhouse there are steps leading to the aft accommodation, which comprises a wide corridor offset to starboard and a settee berth with Pullman berth above and navigation table to starboard. Situated to port there is a two berth cabin and heads compartment. The aft cabin is also two berths, and in keeping with the rest of this boat updated facilities are sympathetic and tasteful.
