BROKER'S COMMENTS

SUNSHINE is a recreation of the original 1900 design by William Fife Junior. Totally faithful to that design this yacht has a magic and feel more soulful than some of her well restored and original sisters, famous as they were for performances in the classic races of their era, such as the Kaiser’s Cup trans-Atlantic and other races held in Europe by the various royal houses and classic yacht clubs. Thus William Fife designs are known for high speed and exquisite elegance, and the surviving originals are mostly carefully pampered treasures on the classic Mediterranean racing circuit

It has been said that the building and handicraft techniques can still be found in Myanmar (formerly Burma) that are as close as one can find to the skills originally employed in the Scotland of the early 20th century and SUNSHINE reflects this in every superb detail.

The compromises to the original plans only allow for the required modern safety standards, such as watertight bulkheads; her hull is Dutch marine grade A steel and was built under Lloyd's supervision and to MCA requirements.

Built to Lloyds specifications, SUNSHINE is a faithful replica of the original. Given the integrity of her reproduction, and high aesthetic appeal, SUNSHINE is accepted by the CIM authorities as a vintage yacht -however this is a vessel that could be considered for a world voyage rather than a Mediterranean cruise and the easier upkeep of a new and incredibly well-built replica should ensure, with good luck, her survival long into the future. SUNSHINE is literally breathtaking.

Construction

Hull is of Dutch marine grade 9.6mm steel, cut and rolled in Holland prior to transport to Burma. Ballast is of lead contained within the keel. She was built under Lloyd's supervision and to MCA requirements at Myanmar Shipyards, which enjoys a reputation for high quality steel work. All interior hard and sharp steel edges have been rounded off prior to painting (One man 18 months with a grinder!). The yacht has four watertight bulkheads, and integral tanks. All steel edges that are susceptible to chafe are protected with stainless steel, i.e. chain plate bolt holes, hawse pipes, fairleads, deck margins, and bulwarks under the wooden rail.

The semi swept deck is of solid (2 1/4" thick) long length quarter sawn Burma teak, probably the last deck of this traditional type that will ever be laid down on a yacht, caulked with cotton and stopped with black rubber. Butt joints are minimal and the planks are fastened from below, with no plugs in the deck.

The yacht has four watertight bulkheads, and integral tanks.
