Fairey Spearfish 1972
WHITE ORCHID OF NEDD
BROKERS COMMENTS
Masters in the art of building in hot moulded Agba veneers, the march of time and technology was to encourage Fairey Marine into GRP construction. Once approved, Alan Burnard was given the task of producing drawings for a hull only in GRP, with a deck and cabin top in wood. He was to base it on the hull of a Huntsman 31; well proven in its performance, sea keeping qualities and appearance. The first Spearfish was exhibited at the 1969 London Boat Show and soon approval was given for the factory to produce all the moulds in GRP at Hamble.
WHITE ORCHID has had three owners from new, her most recent since 1991. Under his direction she has had 2 refurbishments- 1991/2 and 2008/9. Meanwhile this Spearfish has been in use on the West Coast of Scotland, the English South Coast, based on the Beaulieu River, but with trips to the West Country and latterly in the South of France where apart from coastal trips, she has been to Corsica and back. This boat is ideal for young families and fun for children to sleep under the cockpit cover while the adults can enjoy the relative comfort of the cabin below. The Spearfish is the perfect weekend and picnic boat – but not afraid of long distances and with an impressive turn of speed.
The Spearfish has become the preferred Solent classic runabout for yachtsmen and yachting photographers combining a tremendous dry and soft ride with understated classic good looks – WHITE ORCHID is a well looked after and endearingly original example
