HISTORY
EILIDH’s history starts with Alfred Mylne’s design in 1930 leading to her build by Dickie Brothers recently moved from Tarbert to Bangor and her launch on the 22nd May 1931.
The name EILIDH was chosen in memory of the owner’s niece, Helen Russell (EILIDH is Gaelic for Helen). The Yacht won many races in the following years, and cruised extensively the West Coast of Scotland with the Russell family. After four summers in Scotland, the Russells were to explore Scandinavian and Baltic waters, sailing to Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Estonia and Latvia. Adlard Coles notably met Eilidh anchored at Stora Sottunga in July 1938 to record this memorable event in his book “Mary Ann among 10,000 islands”.
With war looming and much despair, EILIDH was left at Hankö yard in summer 1939, as she could not hen be brought home. She survived the 2nd world war in Norway - sailed and well cared for by Luftwaffe officers. She was to leave Hankö on the 6th of July 1948 reaching her homeport, Colintrave, on the glorious 12th of August that year.
Sold in 1973 she started a new life with the John Mill family who used her extensively, racing her to win twice the Scottish Blue Water Race, taking a day and an hour off the record between the Clyde and Brest in the 1994 event.
In 2001, she was found in Dumbarton by her present owner, Jeff Behar, and brought back to Pasqui’s yard at La Darse of Villefranche, where the boat underwent a major refit in order to restore her original splendour. Since 2005, EILIDH has been racing the CIM Circuit and received many awards from her participations to Mediterranean Regattas.
DECK LAYOUT
EILIDH has the trademark Mylne forward sloping doghouse rather better proportioned than some from this period - rebuilt in teak along with all the other deck joinery, which includes 3 sets of butterfly hatches - 2 abaft the mast and one forward that accesses the owner’s cabin.
The deck is only interrupted by four Absolute bronze winches outboard of the cockpit coamings and by superb Dryade deck fittings also cast in bronze. These include all cleats and fairleads, turning blocks and two Dorade vents. EILIDH is tiller steered, and the cockpit is large and uncluttered with good space forward of the helm position.
