PROVISIONAL

These specifications are provisional and may be amended

BROKERS COMMENTS

WINDALIER is a combination of old and new, blended to bring the style and beauty of a Sparkman & Stephens design with the benefits of a more modern concept. She was extensively rebuilt in 1995.

A new rig brings added sail area with a major weight saving, improving her light air performance while the lowered centre of gravity has enhanced her sail carrying ability with reduced pitching in heavier weather and bigger seas.

These performance improvements are reflected in her racing record. This includes many 1st, 2nd and 3rd trophy placements (including Corinthian Ocean Race, Joel White Trophy, Eggemoggin Reach Regatta, Camden Classic Yacht Regatta, Olin Stephens Perpetual Trophy race and the S&S cup (2001).

There is currently an appetite for classic S&S yawls, and there’s no getting away from the fact that WINDALIER might be a very easy boat to sail and own.

Numerous planks and frames were replaced to make her hull as sound as the day she was launched. New teak decks and cabin sole both from Sarasota teak decking systems, replaced the original in 1995 adding greatly to the integrity of the vessel.

The new Yanmar engine and Espar diesel heater were installed in 1995

The new rig, designed by S&S features all carbon spars and rod rigging. Six feet was added to the main mast and 3 1/2 feet to the mizzen. On deck hydraulic winches, roller furling, Vang and backstay adjuster were positioned to control the new rig. A track was added to the foredeck to make the staysail self-tacking. These enhancements combined with the weight reduction offered by an all carbon rig (masts, boom and spinnaker pole) have greatly contributed to ease of handling, performance and safety.
