Bjarne Aas 58 ft 12 Metre Cruiser Racer 1953
YANIRA
BROKERS COMMENTS
Together Bjarne Aas and his rival Johan Anker meant that Norway contributed two of the most significant designers in the International Rule Classes. – Aas was also instrumental in the CR (Cruiser/Racer) Rule of 1950 which sought to encourage yachts with designs suitable for both cruising and ocean racing and YANIRA was a product of 12 Metre CR version of this Rule.
Bjarne Aas’ designs had a reputation for being seaworthy, beautiful and fast – YANIRA qualifies on all three. She has enjoyed the same Spanish ownership for more than 20 years and has been one family’s glorious focal point both cruising the Mediterranean as well as classic race regatta wins now too numerous to list. This has boat has a hull sections that allow her to beat modern designs in the right conditions but excellent accommodation below; huge deck space and taking her roots from a sea kindly 12 Metre – who could want for more?

HISTORY
Arriving at Palma de Mallorca around 1957 with the name of INGEBORG for one Catalan gentleman Manuel Giro, it was love at first sight - but it took two or three years to convince her owner to sale it to him.
In his ownership for about 5 years it was Giro who changed the name to YANIRA later then to sell her to a consortium of 5 owners, during whose ownership she was raced extensively off the Catalan and Balearic coasts (see detailed section below). Her current owner, Federico Garcia Planas, was a teenage crew member during that period and always considered YANIRA to be the best boat in the world; fast, strong and beautiful. In due course; one by one, her four co owners sold out leaving Garcia to buy her as her sole owner.
When Federico bought her, he determined to undo the out of character modifications made during the co ownership and restore her with appropriate materials, respecting her design while updating and renewing her systems. Meanwhile he and his family have enjoyed 25 years of family cruising as well as weekend and international racing, all with friends as amateur crew such that YANIRA has been at the centre of their lives, whether as her name suggests as a constellation or lover of one of her owners......... Even racing with modern boats under IOR formula, YANIRA has achieved a 1st overall in the Alfonso XIII race Barcelona-Mahon.
