BROKER'S COMMENTS

SEAFIN combines the period elegance of a classic English motor yacht, with all the luxuries and amenities of modern day cruising. At present she is a working charter vessel with a reputation for high standards of seamanship and hospitality. As a very successful charter yacht - indeed she is notably the busiest yacht in the Solent - she has been a serious revenue earner and as such provides the ongoing opportunity of a significant income. Typically she has taken between 70 and 90 charters per year of which in 2008 repeat business was 60%; the balance new clients.

Configured with a high standard of accommodation and facilities, she caters as well for the needs of private charterers as for the corporate hospitality market. She could equally provide a discerning owner with an extremely well equipped and laid out yacht of considerable style and ambience. Indeed as well as the obvious options of totally private use or full charter employment with paid crew and skipper, some middle way part private / part charter could appeal to a “hands on” owner with the clear benefit of reducing the charter running costs.

In 2007 SEAFIN enjoyed a substantial refit with the aim of satisfying the requirements of the MCA and holds the Class 6 certificate for a crew of up to 10 and 30 passengers. To maintain the certification she has received regular scheduled and post voyage maintenance covering all aspects of her seagoing, operational, mechanical and electrical – as well as the accommodation and hospitality aspects. She comes with a comprehensive and detailed operations manual, routinely updated and demonstrating compliance with the MCA rating regulations.

In addition to a fully detailed equipment inventory, the manual covers all operations, of which the principal procedures (and this is not an exhaustive list) are covered under the headings:

- ALARMS & PA SYSTEM
- REGULAR MAINTENANCE
- SAILING OPERATIONS
- ENGINE ROOM OPERATIONS
- DOMESTIC OPERATIONS
- EMERGENCY OPERATIONS
- OPERATION AND DEPLOYMENT OF LIFERAFTS AND BUOYANCY AIDS
- TENDERS
- PLAN FOR CO-OPERATION BETWEEN SEARCH AND RESCUE SERVICES
- AND PASSENGER SHIPS (PRIVATE)

History

SHOANNE built in 1961 of pitch pine with oak frames and a teak deck, was one of the last wooden vessels built by John J Thornycroft of Southampton. In 1964, she moved to Scotland and was renamed MINALA. In 1967 she became a member of the Profumo family, moved to Eire and was named SEAFIN. From 1971 to 1986 a new owner based her in Jersey, Sark and Cornwall with sojourns into the Baltic. She has sailed as far as Italy, France, the Balearics Paris and London.

Construction

SEAFIN is of classic wooden construction with pine planking laid over and clenched with copper nails to the oak steam bent frames that run right over the centre line stem. Most of the decking and floors are of solid timber and also copper clenched to the hull and center line structures. In addition to the frames and floors, the hull is supported by five diagonal plank main bulkheads. There are additional less structural bulkheads forming partitions.

The main, fore, aft and side decks are of caulked teak planking supported by the underlying timber deck beams and beamshelf. Some smaller deck areas are of sheathed marine ply. The fore, side and upper decks have varnished timber rails supported on white painted steel stanchions.
