We are told KALISTRA’s design was influenced by the 8 Metre Rule and her overhangs do hint at this. A vintage yacht designed by Robert Clark to fast cruise and race is an exciting prospect and KALISTRA is a much loved family boat ready for more adventures in no lack of style !

KALISTRA has been the subject of articles in the yachting press. The first probably - by Cringle in Yachting World in June 1939, relates to her maiden voyage with designer Robert Clark aboard and on which KALISTRA took him and his crew from St Monans to Cracknore Hard by Marchwood on Southampton Water in only 4 days; pretty fast going by any standards, given there was no need to hurry.

Another refers to some subsequent racing with mention of a good performance round the Island in 1939 and then in the Southsea to Brixham Race “In the latter her ability to keep up good averages enabled her to beat boat for boat, ships which should have been faster - and she was quite well placed even after times had been corrected by the RORC – in spite of the fact she does not rate at all well under that rule carrying for instance a penalty for mast height”

Fast forward to 1952 when a new owner shortened the mast by some 8 feet and sailed her to Brazil, where she stayed for 8 years. Subsequently she returned to British waters; specifically to Hull. Her current owners bought her there in 1988 and sailed her to Salcombe, which was to become her home port for many years. From there she has been sailed in the English South West coastal waters as well as several trips to France and the Chanel Islands – also participating in regattas in Salcombe, Paimpol and Brest. Now based in Port Rhu near Douarnenez she sails mainly the NW coast of France
