BROKER'S COMMENTS

Some 35 years following her launch TOM PEPPER III was substantially refitted by a former owner. This included having the hull epoxied, rebuilding the interior, re-plumbing, new engine boxes and decks. Then for a time owned by an extremely experienced yachtsman she has benefitted from more recent refits including a pair of Perkins Sabre M 225 TI diesel engines as well as many sympathetic updates – with complete rewiring and new batteries in 2011 to make a very well equipped and usable classic. This boat is sensibly priced for such an example of this iconic marque.

History

Based on the deep V hull pioneered by American Ray Hunt, the Fairey Huntsman 28 is the classic boat of its time; an express cruiser and moreover famous for its racing achievements. These boats took part in every Cowes to Torquay race from the first in 1961 – in which DIESEL HUNTSMAN came 3rd – and in the 1969 Round Britain Race, in which they finished 3rd, 5th, 6th and 12th. Between 1960 and 1972 144 of these boats were built.
