Illingworth 37 ft Maica sloop 1963

CHAMOIS

BROKER’S COMMENTS

It is for good reason that Illingworth is sometimes referred to as the founding father of modern ocean racing - a strong advocate of building ocean racers smaller and lighter, he was involved in more than five hundred designs, and the highly successful Class III French ocean racer MAICA, which spawned a class of sister ships, was typical.

CHAMOIS was the third boat to be built, after PRIMEVERE and ALVENA and she has been lovingly and generously restored, her structure carefully repaired, possibly made stronger than original - work started in 2001 and has also included; a new engine, all new rig, a new teak deck, all new systems (plumbing/electric & navigation)and the yacht's interior, for which Illingworth & Primrose were so clever at maximising space, has been skilfully renewed.
