BROKER'S COMMENTS

Built by Priors of Burnham on Crouch, Essex in 1959 to a Yeoman MKII design from Alan Buchanan - a yachting journalist of the time wrote "....It would be possible to obtain a cheaper 24ft waterline yacht, but hard to find one more closely complying with that old definition of an excellent yacht, one that combines beauty, habitability and speed......"

The hull profile is drawn out into overhangs that are beautifully harmonious with one another. She has a cut away fore-foot and a graceful sheer.

MARTOONI has benefitted from having had very few owners and sensible maintenance. Her current owners seem to have a wonderful understanding of this vessel, having cruised and raced extensively in the Mediterranean and other European waters, winning both race and Concours d'Elegance prizes on the way.

Construction

The hull is carvel mahogany, the bottom three planks of teak fastened throughout with either copper or bronze to oak steamed frames. The main keel is elm with a cast iron ballast keel all bolts for which were replaced in September 2003. Galvanised iron floors throughout, of which six were removed and re-galvanised; one replaced and all bolts having been checked 50 of those replaced with new also in 2003. She has Spruce stringers. The teak doghouse and coamings are all varnished. Toe rails are teak. A new teak deck over ply, laid in 1991 is still of very good quality with plenty of thickness in the teak planking. She is tiller steered from the open self draining cockpit, with varnished teak seating and surround with teak sole gratings.

The engine box and galley are to port The gimballed Nelson 2 burner hob, grill and oven was new in 2008, bronze hand pump over sink, the galley area nicely enhanced with mosaic style tiling.

The very light saloon interior is cream painted with burgundy cushions to compliment the varnished teak furniture and cabin sole. The saloon short berth is to port and there’s a Davey Hot Pot solid fuel stove on bulkhead that side. The period “feel” is enhanced by the the side mounted brass lamps.

The fore cabin has two single berths with infill to make up a double and a hatch with bronze skylight port above to the for’ard coachroof, just aft of the foredeck.
