BROKER'S COMMENTS

BUFEO BLANCO is Cesare Sangermani's superb take on a strong, comfortable, spacious, elegant - and of course beautifully built - fast cruiser capable of winning races under the RORC Rating Rule in force at the time in the Mediterranean. Originally launched as LUIMAR, she has cruised extensively under six ownerships, but it wasn’t until the classic boat revival era that her racing potential was fully realised – and some. Since 2008 BUFEO BLANCO has become one the best known and most successful boats on the Mediterranean classic regatta circuit while still enjoying family cruising to the full. 50 ft/ 16 m may be the perfect owner-driver size and BUFEO BLANCO ticks so many boxes. And she has that very special badge: she’s a Sangermani!

HISTORY

CANTIERE SANGERMANI YARD NO. 138

She was launched as LUIMA (an amalgam of his children's names, Luigi and Maria) for Sergio Rossi, owner of Comau Automotive, Torino, who based her on the Côte d'Azur. From 1973 to 1983 she belonged to Turin entrepreneur Luigi Botto Steglia who changed the name to BUFEO BLANCO after a river dolphin of the Amazon said to bring luck to those who see it. Between 1983 and 1992 Milanese tie designer Ido Minola cruised her extensively into the eastern Mediterranean.

After many years enjoyed as a fast cruiser, BUFEO BLANCO's racing career really took off in the classic revival era, initially under the ownership of notary Luigi Oneto, a noted competitor in the International 12 Foot Dinghy class, who gave her an extensive 1992 refit in Liguria and won the Trofeo Prada at the 1994 edition of Vele d'Epoca di Imperia.

Her fifth owner, Professor Giuseppe Marino, first fell in love with BUFEO BLANCO in the 1990s and on re-encountering the boat at Salina in 2006 he became her owner. He took her to the Viareggio yard of Cantiere Navale Francesco del Carlo for a major refit and then began the series of impressive Mediterranean classic regatta campaigns for which she has become so well known - including victories at Imperia, Monaco Classic Week, Argentario, and the Barcolana Classic in the Adriatic - interspersed with intensive periods of family cruising.

BUFEO BLANCO has been in present ownership since 2019.
