GLORIA is sailing superyacht that really works. Her long keel, true classic provenance and everything that comes with this - including great looks, supreme ability and comfort at sea - makes her far from ‘spirit of tradition’; she’s a modern classic. GLORIA is a boat for the ocean, she’s at home there, a proven Atlantic voyager with a staysail schooner rig that’s easily handled by a small crew. Her exterior and interior arrangements are particularly well thought out and, in some respects, unique; conducive to long periods spent afloat with friends and family. GLORIA has been enjoyed, regularly refitted, and professionally maintained by five discerning owners who among them have enjoyed some amazing boats. Who will be her sixth owner?

GLORIA’s designer, Pieter Beelsnejder, was one of the most experienced and successful technical and artistic contributors to the rise of Holland as a superyacht powerhouse. He became closely associated with some of the best Dutch yards, in particular significant/ groundbreaking Royal Huisman builds, including HYPERION, ATHENA, and the interior of the J-Class HANUMAN, all for Jim Clark, GLISS and ETHEREAL. At the time of his death aged 78 in 2016 he was working on the interior design for the Tore Holm-designed J-Class SVEA.
GLORIA's provenance is firmly grounded in the very best of yacht designing and building tradition. Her commissioning owner, Swedish marine lawyer and entrepreneur, Mikael Krafft, grew up close to the Plym family's famous Neglinge Boatyard at the fashionable Stockholm maritime suburb/ resort of Saltsjöbaden, and dreamed of sailing oceans in a fine yacht.
In the 1980s Krafft fell in love with the one of the finest of pre-Second World War large schooners, the 1938 steel Alfred Mylne/ Camper & Nicholsons PANDA, which had been written off after a catastrophic fire in Martinique. But she was deemed too much of a restoration project and instead the Swede commissioned renowned Dutch designer Pieter Beeldsnijder to come up with a modern classic schooner influenced by PANDA’s well proven design, but capable of being easily sailed by an enthusiastic family.
The result was GLORIA, at launch in 1986 the largest vessel then built by the Jongert yard at Medemblik, with interior fit-out by Lowland Yachts, another Dutch yard with a high-quality reputation. The long dreamed of Krafft family blue waters cruises were happily achieved and became the inspiration behind their unique and successful ‘Star Clippers’ square-rigger cruise line venture.
GLORIA passed through Greek and then German ownership before a period with high profile British entrepreneur, and prolific owner of fine and interesting yachts including potential America’s Cup challengers, the late Peter de Savary.
Since entering present ownership in 2010, GLORIA has become well known cruising Caribbean, East Coast USA, and Mediterranean waters - and as a race winner at Antigua.
